As the great Dr. Peck wrote, “When we love something it is of value to us, and when something is of value to us we spend time with it, time enjoying it and time taking care of it.” And while I love myself some Dr. Peck, sometimes, this isn’t always true. As a culture, we have lots of messages thrown at us, and many of those are conflicting. On Real Talk Universe, we write a lot about ‘finding your purpose(s)’, and how the backbone of this process is understanding intuition. But! Not all of us are completely in tune with our intuition. If your intuition seems to be a little spotty when reflecting on your purpose(s), a solid question to ask would be, “Is this particular thing providing me fulfillment?” Are you finding that you are emotionally full when doing this? For me, even though teaching is emotionally EXHAUSTING, I have more emotionally satisfied moments than not. If a day comes when those days are flipped, I will do some serious reassessment of my path. As Juan talks about in his purpose post, our souls have many purposes on this earth during this round. Sometimes, we lose sight of the importance of some of those purposes and we fill our precious time with other things.
I challenge you- (and we all know how much I love a challenge) – assess how you are spending your time and if these activities fill your soul with purpose. If you find yourself repetitively doing activities that feel like work (see: feelings of dread), REASSESS, BABY. You owe it to your soul to grow in this precious life!
